M.W.A (Moths With Attitude)

Behold the Bertholdia trigona tiger moth. Don’t call me a Lepidopterist, but be prepared for this moth to create quite a buzz in the insect world. The nerds who do study moths (the evil step insect of the Lepidoptera order) have discovered the tiger moth’s unique and tactical adaptations. In fact, according to the Daily Telegraph “the tactic employed by the Bertholdia trigona tiger moth is the insect equivalent of electronic countermeasures used in modern warfare.”
Pretty sweet. In essence, as this moth is hunted by an echolocating bat it will send out it’s own confusing high frequency sounds jamming those of the bat. This bit of evolutionary genius proceeds to confuse the bat and allow the moth to escape. So cool I almost forgot that moths also eat our clothes.
